Welcome to the 2007 Cub Scout Pack 909
Pinewood Derby!
A new 42 foot track, new software, new timer
gate, new rules and a record number of rookies on the
field! What is this a recipe for? An
exciting race!!!
The boys were pumped up, the parents were on
edge, the cars were fast, and the pizza hot!!!
Thirty-nine cars were lined up to race this year, which made for 39
heats in the qualifying round. A new pack speed record
was set and recorded early on and then was beat, and then beaten
again, until a veteran racer finally took it and held
it. A few wrecks on the track and maybe one or two crew
chief protests later, and we got our final twelve for the shoot
out!
The track score keeper compared his tally
with the computer, and the judges all agreed. There they were--the twelve
fastest of the field, three of which were rookies to the race… In twelve heats we would
have our top six.
Or would we?
We
got our top six placers, but it would not stop there. In the end, it came
down to two veteran racers that had been going at it all night. A tie for first place,
all the way down to a thousand of a second! Our Pack Record holder and
one other veteran that wanted it bad. They would have to
shoot it out in a good old-fashion drag race. Nothing but gravity,
graphite lubed wheels and a good bit of luck would give us the
winner that takes the 2007 edition of the Cub Scout Pack 909
Pinewood Derby.
